Island Sweet Skunk by House of Cultivar
Island Sweet Skunk, sometimes called Sweet Island Skunk, is a sativa strain. The flavor is most easily described as “sweet skunk,” where tropical fruit flavors take the lead. Often the fruity aroma is likened to grapefruit. Originally bred by Federation Seed Company in Canada, this strain is a descendant of Skunk #1 and grows tall, straight, high-yielding plants. Some varieties of Island Sweet Skunk have a heightened CBD content to help patients treating anxiety, inflammation, and muscle spasms. Flowering occurs at 7 to 8 weeks and buds will have bright yellow-orange hairs. They will remain loose and fluffy, so make sure they don’t get too dried out.
A nice mix of dark and light green leaves, with lots of orange hues where some clusters of short hairs appeared. Took a macro shot in the grinder so you could see some of the dark purple hues as well. They’re super hidden towards the stem underneath the leaves. Trim quality was overall great, with the exception of a spot or two that had longer, curved leaves. Could tell it was fresh from the potent smell upon opening, but in the grinder, it ended up powdery, fine, and a bit dry. Because of this, it didn’t taste like much when we vaped it. Could have done well with some extra moisture in the curing process, or maybe a humidity packet in the packaging.
You can really smell the “sweet,” whereas you can taste the “skunk.” The smell is very light and tropical, kind of reminds me of summer. Smells a of citrus but the taste is much more earthy and clear. When vaped, we didn’t get much flavor. But when smoked, it tasted a bit more of diesel. This is where the skunk came in.
This strain had contradictory effects to its lineage. It’s technically classified as a sativa, which makes sense because I did get a big head high. Very cerebral. However, I would probably not smoke this during the day, unless I wanted to induce a nap. I smoked this with my partner, and we both agreed that afterwards we didn’t want to do anything. I felt slightly creative, with no follow through. Wouldn’t have been able to complete any big projects. I really wanted to do my nails but that didn’t happen either. Bottom line, we were incredibly spaced out.
I’d definitely buy this, it was incredibly potent. Regardless of the high THC content, I think the way this was processed goes a long way. I can tell there was care put into it. The effects lasted a bit longer than most strains typically do for me- worth noting. I’d say the only downside was the dryness of the buds themselves. But to be fair, it was an older package date.
